Our Mission Is to Care for Your Family Like Ours

At Aging in Place North Carolina, our mission is simple: to care for your family the same way we care for our own—by creating safer, more comfortable homes that support independence, dignity, and peace of mind.

That mission starts with our founder.

Del Scheitler, CEO & Founder of Aging in Place North Carolina, brings over 15 years of experience in marketing, home services, and construction, having worked with some of North Carolina’s most recognized brands including Cheerwine, Omega Sports, Biscuitville, NC Eat & Play, and the Carolina Hurricanes. He is also the President and co-owner of Investment Heroes Roofing, helping homeowners protect and preserve their most valuable asset—their home.

But Aging in Place North Carolina wasn’t built from business experience alone—it was built from personal experience.

Del and his wife Kim are proud parents to their young son, Theo, and like many families, they are navigating the realities of caring for both a growing child and an aging parent. After losing his father, Del’s mother moved to North Carolina to be closer to family. What followed were years of unexpected challenges—a stroke, heart failure, recovery during the pandemic, and later, a serious fall that resulted in a broken hip.

Like so many adult children today, Del found himself balancing career demands, caregiving responsibilities, and the emotional weight of ensuring his mother’s safety and well-being. With language barriers, cognitive changes, and mobility limitations, the need for a safer, more supportive home environment became urgent—and deeply personal.

That experience revealed a gap.

Too many families are left trying to figure out home safety modifications, aging in place solutions, and caregiving support on their own—without clear guidance or trusted professionals to help them plan ahead.

Aging in Place North Carolina was created to change that.

Our Family-Focused Values

Listening First

Before we recommend anything, we take time to understand your family's unique situation, concerns, and goals. Every family is different, and cookie-cutter solutions don't work.

Respecting the Home

Your home has memories, character, and personal meaning. We never treat modifications as purely functional—we honor the space and create solutions that feel like they belong.

Beauty & Function

We believe safety modifications should enhance your home, not make it feel institutional. Our design approach balances accessibility with aesthetics you can be proud of.

My why: (a little more about me)

At Aging in Place North Carolina, this work is deeply personal. I’m Del Scheitler, founder of Aging in Place NC. I grew up as the youngest of three, with two older brothers who had developmental disabilities, including cerebral palsy. My childhood was shaped by caregiving—supporting my brothers and my mother, who came from Thailand and built a life for our family here in America.

Because of my mother, I learned early in life what it truly means to care for the people you love.

I’ve also experienced the weight that comes with it—loss, uncertainty, and the emotional toll that families carry behind the scenes. Through those challenges, my faith has been my foundation. It’s what has given me strength, perspective, and a deeper sense of purpose during life’s hardest moments.

Today, that purpose has come full circle. As a new father, I'm also caring for my mother and my brother, who still depend on me. Navigating home safety, accessibility, and aging in place solutions isn’t just what I do—it’s what I live every day.

That’s why Aging in Place North Carolina exists. We help families create safe, accessible homes for aging loved ones, so no one feels lost, overwhelmed, or alone in the process. Our goal is to bring dignity, safety, and peace of mind to every home we touch.

My team and I deeply appreciate the trust it takes to invite us into your home and your family’s journey—it’s a responsibility we never take lightly and a privilege we are honored to carry.

My why:

Raised in a multicultural, multigenerational household in New York and now rooted in North Carolina, my work has consistently centered on helping people navigate important life decisions with clarity and confidence.

My professional experience spans planning-focused roles across financial services, estate planning/administration, real estate, and long-term care, with each reinforcing a common thread: the need for thoughtful, proactive support as life evolves.

Today, my role with Aging in Place North Carolina sits at the intersection of that experience and a deeply held belief that our homes should be sanctuaries - places where safety, beauty, and dignity come together to support independence and peace of mind.

This perspective is both professional and personal. Being part of both my grandmothers' aging in place journeys as they lived with us, and now walking alongside parents, in-laws, and peers in similar seasons, I bring a grounded, compassionate approach to helping individuals and families remain where they love.

Mary Pruter

Marketing Director

My Why:

Hi, I’m Mary Pruter—a marketing and web professional turned Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), serving families across the Triangle and Triad here in North Carolina.

My path to this work is deeply personal. Over the past several years, I’ve been the primary caregiver for my own mother, experiencing firsthand the emotional and practical challenges that come with helping a loved one age safely at home.

That journey changed everything for me. It inspired me to create the kind of support and guidance I wish I had during that time.

Today, I work closely with adult children of aging parents—helping families navigate home safety assessments, modification planning, and care coordination with patience, clarity, and compassion. My background in marketing and design allows me to communicate simply and meet families where they are, without overwhelm.

I chose North Carolina as home over a decade ago, and I’ve never looked back. I truly believe home is where life happens—and I’m dedicated to helping families stay in the homes they love, safely and confidently, for as long as possible.
